Antikythera Cultural Trails

A journey through the island’s history and landscape

The Cultural Trails of Antikythera offer a unique touring experience on an island where nature and history coexist in harmony. The landscape shifts between low Mediterranean vegetation, dry-stone walls and the open horizon, while the monuments act as living narrators of the history of an island that once stood at the crossroads of civilisations and sea routes.
Following old cobbled paths and rural trails, you will pass key sites such as the Castle of Antikythera, with its strategic view over the Myrtoan Sea, the Sanctuary of Apollo, which bears witness to the island’s ancient religious history, the Andronikos Watermill, evidence of pre-industrial life, and the Monastery of Agios Myron, a place of spiritual reference for the island’s inhabitants.
At the Apolytara Lighthouse, one of the island’s most striking points, you will enjoy panoramic views over the endless blue and a sense of isolation that is truly captivating.
Daily life on Antikythera unfolds at a gentle pace, and this is reflected in its hospitality. Combine your walk with a visit to the two traditional tavernas in Potamos, where you can try local dishes, such as wild goat and fresh fish, accompanied by local wine.
A swim at Xyropotamos and Chalara or at Kamarela, a cove with uniquely beautiful rock formations, will leave you refreshed. Before you leave, it is worth picking up some genuine thyme honey, one of the island’s most authentic products.
The Cultural Trails are an ideal way to discover Antikythera as a peaceful, authentic destination.
