Throumba Olives and Thasos olive oil

Products with a designation of origin

Thasos is not just an island full of natural beauty. It also hides small gastronomic treasures. The famous Throumba Thasos, a unique type of olive with PDO status, and Thasos olive oil, certified as PGI, are the products par excellence that testify to a centuries-old tradition.
You can learn the secrets of olive cultivation and olive oil production at the Olive and Olive Oil Museum at Prinos. The traditional tools, machines, techniques and photographic material present vividly the history of the olive tree in relation to Greek culture, the vine and the sea.
Moreover, in the village of Panagia and the Sotirelli Traditional Olive Oil Mill -which is now a museum- there is the only water mill in Greece that operates to this day.
Let the gastronomy guide you
The flavours of Thasos are one of the keys to getting to know the island and its people. Besides the famous Throumba olives and extra virgin olive oil, two other local products are part of the living tradition that connects the land with the everyday life of the inhabitants: the award-winning honey and the special salami of Thasos.
Thasos honey is a special aromatic variety due to the rich flora of the island. The information programmes of the Beekeeping Cooperative of Thasos offer you the opportunity to get to know the traditional bee production and different honey varieties, such as flower honey and pine honey.
The excellent Thasos salami is made from local meats and spices, connecting taste and tradition. You can taste it in local shops or directly from producers on the island
Let the flavours of Thasos become a guide on your journey, revealing unique features of the island in the most enjoyable way.
