A paradise for lovers of the sea and tranquillity
Leaving the harbour of Merichas behind and heading towards the Chora, you will come across the small beach of Martinakia and then Episkopi and Apokrousi; these are the island's best-serviced and busiest beaches, featuring fine sand and shallow waters.
Passing through the Chora, the road leads to the bay of Loutra, where thermal springs well up next to the sea. Swim at the edge of the coast and you will feel the natural warmth of the springs flowing into the waves.
Near Loutra, the beaches of Agia Irini, Arkoudi and Schinari offer quieter dips, whilst to the north-east the beaches of Kavourocheri, Potamia and Agios Sostis make up a chain of natural bays possessing wild beauty.
Following the route from the Chora towards Dryopida, you will discover the beaches on the eastern side of the island —Zogaki, Naousa, Kouri, Agios Stefanos, Agios Ioannis and Vasilika— as well as the quiet bays of Lefkes, Liotrivi and Kalo Livadi. On some beaches, you will find small tavernas and rooms to let, always with a view of the sea.
At the southeastern tip of the island, the pine-clad hamlet of Panagia Kanala is home to three beloved beaches: Megali Ammos, Ammoudaki and Antonides, all with calm, shallow waters and views stretching to Kea.
If you prefer absolute quiet, head to the south-eastern beaches of Skylos, Gaidouromantra and Simousi, or south west, to the isolated coasts of Mavrianos and Stifo.
Do not miss out on visiting Flampouria beach and the picturesque Agios Dimitrios at the southern tip of the island, ideal for one last quiet swim, just before the sun sets.
