The Nectar of Hephaestus
The winemaking tradition of Limnos is lost in the depths of time, wrapped in myths and historical references. The Celebrated Muscat of Alexandria
Today, the island continues to produce excellent wines that stand out for their delicate aroma, full-bodied flavour and top quality, which is now recognised worldwide. Across its beautiful plains with the rich volcanic soil, the white aromatic variety Muscat of Alexandria is cultivated. From it come fine white wines, both dry and sweet, bearing the certifications of Appellation of Superior Quality (ASQ) and Controlled Designation of Origin (CDO), constantly winning awards in international competitions.
Limnio: The Oldest Red Variety
On the eastern side of the island, tradition meets the oldest recorded red variety in the world, Limnio (locally known as "Kalambaki"). With its distinctive character, Limnio stands as a living heritage of Greek viticulture.
Traditional Distillates in "Lakaria"
Along with wine, Limnos Island is renowned for its strong distillates. A special place is held by the production of tsipouro and ouzo in the famous "lakaria", the traditional distilleries that are also a centre of social life for the locals.
