An iconic landmark above Parga harbour
The castle’s history is rich and captivating. The first fortifications were built in the medieval period, when the inhabitants of Parga fortified the area against pirate raids with the assistance of the Normans. In 1401, when the Venetians took control, Parga Castle was strengthened and redesigned, becoming a powerful stronghold in Western Greece.
Today, it is an impressive monument to Venetian architecture. Its walls, gates, turrets and the distinctive winged lion above the entrance create a setting of singular beauty. From its battlements, the panoramic view over the harbour, the deep-blue bays and the endless Ionian Sea is breathtaking, especially at sunset, a moment you will never forget.
Inside, there are exhibition spaces, and there is also a café, in surroundings where history meets tranquillity.
Parga Castle combines the power of history with natural beauty and invites you to wander through a landscape where every stone tells its own journey through time. Experience it, enjoy the view, and let the atmosphere of the site transport you.
