The wild beauty of the Dodecanese

Karpathos is the second largest island of the Dodecanese. Stretching long and narrow between Rhodes and Crete, it is a land full of contrasts. One side is home to its Doric backbone, with high mountain peaks, wild, unspoilt landscapes, and villages that honour tradition devoutly. The other holds fragrant pine forests, coves of turquoise, and some of the most beautiful and untouched beaches in Greece.
Sculpted by nature, Karpathos is a protected biotope of the Eastern Mediterranean.  More than 80 species of rare or endemic plants thrive here. It is also home to a significant number of birds of prey and provides shelter for the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus). The northern part of the island, along with the broader marine area, is part of the Natura 2000 network
In the villages nestled high in the mountains, almost abandoned to their primordial pace of life, unique mores, customs and traditions are preserved. The undisputed star of Karpathos is the extraordinary village of Olympos. Built in the northern part of the island, on a rugged site overlooking the sea, it has kept its cultural identity intact thanks to its isolation. The archaic dialect, music, customs, and women who still wear traditional woven costumes, compose a distinct microcosm from eras past.
Karpathos open-handedly offers landscapes of magnificent beauty and a slow pace of life. Whether up in its mountains or down on its exotic sandy beaches, surrender to its singular aura, which will have you returning again and again.
