Tyrnavos Tsipouro

A distillate with protected geographical indication

Tyrnavos, a town northeast of Larisa, is known not only for its extensive viticulture, but also for an extremely special distillate: Tyrnavos tsipouro (pomace brandy). It has been recognised since 1989 as a product with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), making Tyrnavos the only Greek town boasting this honorary distinction.
Tyrnavos tsipouro is produced mainly from the Tyrnavos Black Muscat variety, a fruit that expresses the uniqueness of the land, bearing aromas of flowers and fruits. The winemaking and distilling tradition of the region is coordinated by the historic, award-winning Agricultural Winery Cooperative of Tyrnavos, which was founded in 1961 and currently operates modern distilleries.
Tyrnavos tsipouro is produced using a traditional distillation process, resulting in a clear distillate that is served chilled and redefines freshness.
This authentic product from the area is inextricably linked to the everyday life of locals. A glass of tsipouro enjoyed with friends is more than just a drink — it is a moment of relaxation and communication. It is the ideal accompaniment for local delicacies, ranging from cheese to light appetizers, consumed at a traditional tsipouradiko establishment.
Visitors to the area you can also become acquainted with the production process through visits and guided tours to local wineries and distilleries. There, where tsipouro is created with knowledge and passion, you can sample it on the spot and experience the vitality, flavour and hospitality of Tyrnavos. Indulge in the pleasure, as nothing compares to a sip of chilled Tyrnavos tsipouro, precisely where it is produced. An authentic and unmissable Thessaly experience.
