A gorge of cascading waters
Located just off the Kalamata–Pylos Road, near the village of Charavgi, Polylimnio is a verdant gorge where water carves the landscape into a sequence of lakes and waterfalls. This complex of approximately 15–17 natural lakes is interconnected by a winding stream and small cascades, while small bridges and shaded paths along the route facilitate exploration, making it a favourite destination for nature lovers and hikers.
The route is signposted and follows the water’s edge. It stretches for about 3 km and takes roughly 2 hours to complete (excluding stops), passing through spots with small and large waterfalls that form natural "pools" of turquoise water.
Standout features include the Kadoula waterfall, which drops from a height of approximately 25 m, and the large Lake Kadi, the most popular spot for a rest and—when conditions allow—a refreshing dip. You will also encounter Mavrolimna, as well as lakes with local names such as Italou, Tycherou, Panagou, and Stathoulas, each linked to the folk stories of the region.
Explore Polylimnio and enjoy one of the most beautiful hiking experiences in Messenia.
