Authentic Cretan charm

At the western end of Crete lies Chania, one of the most beautiful cities in Greece. With a long history and a dreamlike old town, it is a destination that charms every visitor from the first moment. Since 2025, the Minoan palace of Kydonia, excavations of which are scattered throughout the city, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site.
In the old town of Chania, the successive conquerors of the island have left an indelible mark over the centuries. Venetian mansions, old hammams, minarets and churches weave a beautiful tapestry amongst stone-built alleys with bougainvillea and fountains featuring Ottoman inscriptions. Wandering through the labyrinthine streets of the historic districts of Topanas, Splantzia, Ovraiki and Kasteli is a journey through time. The iconic old harbour with its Egyptian lighthouse is the most recognisable point in the city, perfect for relaxing with a view of the sea.
Leaving the old town, you can stroll along the coast towards Nea Chora for a swim, coffee or a meal at its fish tavernas. To the east of the city lies the historic quarter of Halepa with its grand 19th-century mansions. The new, impressive Archaeological Museum of Chania is located there, as is the house of Eleftherios Venizelos, which is now a museum dedicated to the great statesman.
The Municipal Market is a landmark for both locals and visitors. Here you can discover local products, sample traditional delicacies and feel the pulse of daily life in Chania amidst a feast of colours and aromas.
The regional unit of Chania is not limited to the city but offers experiences at every turn of its inland and coastline. Despite being renowned for its numerous and award-winning beaches, the identity of the region is shaped primarily by the imposing presence of the White Mountains, a mountain range with more than twenty peaks exceeding 2,000 metres, creating an impressive backdrop, ideal for hiking and exploration.
