The easternmost tip of Crete

Sitia nestles amphitheatrically around a sheltered bay, a tranquil port blending authenticity, natural beauty, and rich history.
With a relaxed pace and a welcoming ambience, this city boasts a long history, having developed near ancient Itanos, a significant port in the eastern Mediterranean during antiquity. Today, the Venetian fortress of Kazarma overlooks the city, a reminder of its strategic importance throughout the centuries. Sitia is also the birthplace of the poet Vitsentzos Kornaros, who composed the ‘Erotokritos’, a 17th-century verse narrative that imbues the area with a distinct cultural identity.

The broader Sitia region is renowned for its unique natural landscapes: the Vai palm forest, impressive gorges, tranquil beaches with crystal-clear waters, and mountain villages that preserve their traditions. Moreover, the local gastronomy, based on exceptional olive oil, aromatic herbs, and pure local products, highlights the authentic character of this Cretan gem.
