The mythical island of Calypso with its emerald waters

Lipsi consists of a small chain of islands in the eastern Aegean Sea, situated between Patmos and Leros, and they are part of the Dodecanese. This tranquil and authentic place captivates visitors with its simplicity and serenity.
According to mythology, this was the island of Ogygia, where Odysseus was shipwrecked and remained a captive of the nymph Calypso for seven years. Lipsi has a long history, dating back to the Bronze Age and continuing to the present day. Knights of St John, the Ottomans, and the Italians passed through here, leaving few traces that are scattered throughout the present landscape, harmoniously integrated with nature.
The island's sole hamlet sprawls across the slope of a hill at its centre. White houses, narrow lanes, courtyards brimming with flowers, and a sense of familiarity create a scene reminiscent of bygone eras. At the heart of it all, stands the church of Agios Ioannis Theologos (Saint John the Theologian), a point of reference for the daily lives of the residents. Fishing boats bob gently in the harbour, while fishermen arrange their nets on the quayside after a day's work.
Lipsi is renowned for its stunning beaches, with turquoise waters and natural shade, as well as for the numerous coves with impressive white rocks. The landscape also includes small hills, meadows, and ravines that are fragrant with oregano, thyme, and savory. The entire island, along with its neighbouring islands, is part of the Natura 2000 network.
Lipsi moves at a slow pace. The people are warm and hospitable, the food is simple and delicious, featuring local produce and fresh fish. Here, you will find serenity and a rare sense of inner balance.
