The cosmopolitan of the Sporades

Skiathos is an island that uniquely combines exotic beaches with crystal-clear waters, picturesque alleyways, and a vibrant nightlife, offering holidays that balance relaxation and entertainment.
The city of Skiathos is the main town on the island and is a modern resort centre with excellent tourist infrastructure. Built in a sheltered bay, it embraces one of the largest natural harbours in the Aegean, which has always been the heart of the island's life. 
The island's history is inextricably linked to the sea. During the Middle Ages, constant pirate raids forced the inhabitants to abandon the ancient city and seek refuge in the Castle, located on the northern side of the island, a natural fortress overlooking the open sea. The modern town began to develop once more in the early 19th century, on the site of ancient Skiathos. Despite suffering severe bombardment during the Second World War, it retains elements of its charm.
Skiathos is renowned for having more than 60 beaches that stretch all around the island. The beach of Koukounaries, with its golden sand, has been voted among the best in the Mediterranean, while Lalaria is one of the most impressive in Greece, with its white pebbles and sheer cliffs.
Skiathos possesses a profound and authentic soul. Alexandros Papadiamantis, the great Greek writer, was born and lived here. Through his works, he captured the everyday life of the island's ordinary people with unique sensitivity. On Skiathos, with its small churches, panigyria traditional festivals, seafaring tradition, and deep faith, visitors can still recognise images and moments that seem to have been lifted from the pages of his short stories.
