75 Kilometres of Excitement in the Heart of Arcadia

In the mountainous heart of the Peloponnese, unfolds the Menalon Trail, a grand hiking route that traverses landscapes of exceptional natural beauty. From the imposing Lousios River Gorge and the valley of Mainalos to the verdant slopes of Mount Mainalo, the trail offers a unique experience in the Greek countryside.
History and Journey
The route covers 75 kilometres and is divided into eight distinct sections. Many of these trails predate antiquity, serving as the primary arteries for transporting goods and facilitating the movement of residents. The Menalon Trail connects nine traditional stone-built villages: Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, Zygovitsi, Elati, Vytina, Nymfasia, Magouliana, Valtetsiniko, and Lagadia. Traversing historical and cultural hubs, it revitalises the region, showcasing its architecture and traditions.
Top Quality Certification
The trail design adheres to the stringent standards of the European Hiking Association (ERA). Following an assessment based on 41 quality and technical criteria, it received the Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe certification. It was the eighth trail in Europe to receive this international recognition, guaranteeing an organised, safe, and high-quality hiking experience.
A Complete Escape
Beyond hiking and trekking, the area offers a plethora of activities:

  •         Adventure: Rafting and kayaking along the Lousios River, mountain biking through the forests, and skiing in the winter at the Mainalo Ski Centre.

  •         Accommodation: Stay in traditional guesthouses, mansions, and aesthetically refined hotels.

  •         Gastronomy: Local delicacies that add a special touch to the journey.

The Menalon Trail is a captivatingly multifaceted destination, perfect for day trips or extended excursions, offering complete harmonisation with the mountainous terrain of Arcadia.
