Hiking on Paxos

Discovering the Green Diamond of the Ionian on foot

Beyond being a sporting activity, hiking on Paxos is an almost mystical journey through time, unfolding along enchanting natural passages. The island boasts an excellent network of footpaths that wind through dense ancient olive groves and connect picturesque settlements, offering scenes of rare authenticity.
During your walks in Loggos, you will come across the old Anemogiannis soap factory, a monument to the island’s industrial history. Nearby are the beaches of Levrechio and Marmaria, perfect for peaceful rest stops.
In Magazia, seek out the church of Agioi Apostoloi, from where you can enjoy the dramatic view over the cliffs of Erimitis, while the area of Kastanida is the ideal place to watch the sunset.
In the northern part of the island, Lakka enchants visitors with the historic house of Dritsis and the church of Ypapanti. At the nearby cape of Planos you will see an imposing lighthouse, while Monodendri beach will impress you with its tranquillity.
If you prefer longer distances, explore the route from Lakka to Gaios, which are about 12 km apart. Despite the elevation gain, it is a relatively easy route, with the path reaching a maximum altitude of 241 m. On this walk of around 2.5 hours, you will enjoy magnificent views over the Ionian Sea.
An equally enchanting experience is offered by the route from Loggos to Orkos beach and Lakka. It covers around 5 km and has a gentle elevation difference of 162 m.
Whichever path you choose, you are certain to fall in love with this little corner of the Ionian and long to return.
