Local Products of Vytina

Mountain flavours with an authentic character

Nestled on the slopes of Mount Menalon, Vytina is more than just a haven for nature enthusiasts; it is a small-scale artisanal hub, producing local goods and flavours defined by their unique character.
The surrounding area is abundant in wildflowers and produces various floral waters, while its honey boasts a deep, sweet flavour with distinct notes of thyme and wild blossoms. Other precious bee products from the region include propolis and royal jelly.
The traditional dairies of Vytina and the neighbouring villages produce feta, kefalotyri, graviera, and anthotyro. Every bite reflects the purity of the high-altitude pastures of Arcadia, offering a taste that truly "speaks" of the mountain landscape.
While Vytina may not be the first region that comes to mind for viticulture, several small-scale producers experiment with aromatic grape varieties and traditional distillates (spirits) that serve as the perfect digestif after a hearty mountain meal.
The region also yields a significant harvest of walnuts, alongside olives, olive oil, and mountain herbs such as oregano, rosemary, and thyme. Legumes from small family-run farms add the finishing touches to a cuisine that is, above all else, deeply rooted in the land.
Most local products are available in Vytina’s traditional groceries, kafenía (coffee houses), and small workshops. For organised visits to producers, please contact the Municipality of Gortynia or local cooperatives for information regarding opening hours and tour availability.
