The lady of the Cyclades

An island with a unique style, atmosphere, and architecture, Syros is the capital of the Cyclades and harmoniously combines the nobility of the country's first industrial centre with the simplicity of the Cycladic landscape.
Ermoupoli, the island’s capital, steals the show. Here, two "twin" hills facing each other serve as a reminder of the two communities that have lived harmoniously on the island to this day.
On one side, the more recent Orthodox quarter grew in the 19th century AD, with impressive neoclassical buildings, squares, and public buildings reminiscent of a European capital — a living open-air museum.
On the other side, spreading across the opposite hill, is Ano (Upper) Syros, the medieval settlement of the Catholic community, with houses huddled around the fortified Cathedral Church of San Giorgio, which dominates the summit. Labyrinthine alleys, whitewashed walls, arches, and narrow cobbled streets with steps lead to small, quiet neighbourhoods.
The setting is completed by coastal hamlets, small fishing villages, natural landscapes smelling of thyme and shimmering with golden olive trees, as well as a rich cultural tradition. Ermoupoli hosts international artistic events, such as the International Classical Music Festival of the Cyclades, the Animasyros International Animation Festival, and the Ermoupoleia.
Syros is elegant and stately, exuding a cosmopolitan aura and offering everything: nature, culture, and a renowned cuisine. It is a place that remains vibrant winter and summer alike, waiting for you to surrender to its charm.
