The “hand-crafted” island

Tinos is the fourth largest island in the Cyclades, with a strong identity and deep roots in tradition. It is inextricably linked to the Virgin Mary of Tinos, the church that dominates the Chora and is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in Orthodoxy.
Tinos is much more than that. It is an island of art and creativity, with a long tradition in marble craftsmanship, as well as the birthplace of great Greek artists, such as the painters Nikolaos Gyzis and Nikiforos Lytras, and the sculptor Yannoulis Chalepas. At the same time, it stands out for its excellent gastronomy and its beautiful villages, which offer authentic experiences and hidden gems.
Tinos is a mountainous island, with its characteristic terraces shaping the landscape. Its hills are dotted with more than 600 dovecotes, examples of high vernacular architecture and artistic tradition. Its coastline alternates between beautiful beaches with tamarisk trees and small coves with tavernas where the waves almost reach your feet.
The authentic Tinos, the “hand-crafted” island, as philosopher Cornelius Castoriadis called it, is found in its approximately 40 traditional villages. Each one constitutes a unique microcosm, connected by an extensive network of trails, perfect for hikes and exploration.
