In the fir-covered mountains of Evrytania

In the heart of Central Greece, among endless fir forests and tall mountains, lies Karpenisi, the capital of Evrytania. The region stands out for its alpine landscape at the highest peak of Mount Tymfristos and has witnessed important moments in history. The mountains here seem never-ending, much like the babbling of the rivers and running waters.
This natural landscape has decisively shaped the region's history. During the years of the Greek War of Independence of 1821, the mountains of Evrytania served as a refuge and a base for the fighters. During World War II, armed struggle against the occupiers was officially declared here and the region became a symbol of the Resistance.
Today, Karpenisi is a mountain town teeming with life. The large square with plane trees in the town centre is where locals and visitors meet. Its narrow streets host traditional kafenia (coffee houses), stone houses, and small shops selling local products – honey, dairy products, tsipouro (a traditional distilled grape pomace spirit), and the famous cured meats of Evrytania.
The broader region is one of the most sparsely populated, pristine, and untouched in Greece. The enchanting landscape includes gorges, waterfalls, dense forests, and rivers, offering a multitude of options for adventure and relaxation. Stone bridges, monasteries perched on mountainsides, and small, picturesque villages, such as Megalo Chorio and Mikro Chorio, Koryschades and Klafsi, compose an ideal land for exploration.
Breathe in the mountain air, eat exceptionally well, and feel the unadulterated power of nature.
