Trizonia is a small island in the Corinthian Gulf near the coast of Central Greece, situated on the route between Nafpaktos to Galaxidi. There are several other small islands are nearby, but this is the only inhabited one. Trizonia is a tiny gem. Within just 2.5 square kilometres, traditional houses coexist with lush vegetation and a beautiful coastline. Olive groves, almond trees, vineyards, prickly pear cacti, fruit trees, as well as dense lentisks, holly oak, and eucalyptus trees, create a landscape full of colours and aromas. The island stands out because it is car-free, making it ideal for relaxing, peaceful holidays. You can easily reach it by boat from the coastal village of Chania in five minutes. Just 50 people live here at winter, but in the summer it serves as a vital resupply point for sailing boats and private vessels, which anchor in its picturesque marina, as it is an important stop on the Lefkada–Isthmus route. Trizonia combines the sea, summer languor, and a mountain feel, with its rich vegetation and architecture reminiscent of a traditional mountain village. It is a tranquil retreat, free from noise, where you can relish walks in nature, swimming in the sea, and good food. The crickets (trizonia) will keep you company during the cool summer nights, singing from the trees, and they are likely to have given the island its name.
