The exotic gem of the Peloponnese

On the southeastern tip of the Peloponnese, opposite Neapoli in Laconia, lies Elafonisos, a small island with clear turquoise waters and white sandy beaches, where everything seems to move at a much calmer pace. Its exotic beauty makes it one of Greece’s most impressive summer destinations.
Elafonisos is famous for its beaches, most notably the twin beaches of Simos – Megali Ammos and Sarakiniko. With fine, almost white sand and shallow, crystal-clear waters, they form a unique natural landscape, ideal for swimming, relaxing, and playing in the water. A little further along, Panagia completes the landscape with equally impressive images, as cedars and sand dunes alternate all the way to the sea. The landscape is a Natura 2000 protected area, preserving endemic plants such as sea daffodils.
Elafonisos is more than just nature. It is located in an important geographical area and was beloved by pirates and corsairs. In antiquity, it was a significant maritime stop from as early as the Neolithic period, as evidenced by the submerged prehistoric settlement of Pavlopetri, one of the oldest submerged settlements in the world.
Today, the island’s only hamlet embraces the harbour with white houses, small hotels, and tavernas serving fresh fish and seafood meze. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and authentic, far from the intensity of more cosmopolitan destinations.
Elafonisos is a place for simple pleasures: the sun, the sea, walking by the waves, and endless hours under the summer sky. It is a small island that offers grand images and will remain with you forever.
