Secluded and unique

Nestled away from the rest of the Kynouria region by towering mountains, Leonidio gently stretches from the Myrtoan Sea to the foothills of the Parnon mountain range. The town is built at the base of imposing red cliffs, and the Dafnonas river flows through it, dividing it into the traditional hamlet and the more modern neighbourhood.
Elegant houses with a Frankish aesthetic grace the village streets, while the fragrant, stone-built courtyards, filled with geraniums, wisteria, and lemon trees, diffuse enchanting fragrances. Beautiful tile-roofed verandas, tall whitewashed walls, and intricate chimneys complement the unique architecture of the area, creating an atmosphere that transports visitors to bygone eras.
A variety of agricultural products are cultivated In the fertile plains of the region, including the renowned sweet Tsakonian aubergine, a product with Protected Designation of Origin. There is something unique about Leonidio, as it is home to the celebrated Tsakonian dialect, a corruption of the ancient Doric dialect. The area’s seclusion favoured its preservation, and today it is considered one of the oldest living dialects in the world.
Leonidio, a beautiful and hidden gem, full of customs and traditions, has evolved into a vibrant and welcoming place. Every summer, the unique Melitzazz Festival is held here, offering a fusion of music, tradition, and gastronomy. Easter will leave you with unforgettable memories thanks to its local customs, while every autumn a Climbing Festival is held, attracting enthusiasts from all over the world.
