In the land of Agiorgitiko wine

Nemea is famous for the ancient myth of a giant lion that roamed the region, devouring flocks and spreading fear and terror among the inhabitants. It was then that Heracles arrived, managing to kill it thanks to his strength and ingenuity. Ever since, he would roam with the animal’s skin on his back, a characteristic image in Greek mythology.
Today, Nemea is a small town set within fertile plains that have given life to the area for centuries. The archaeological site of Nemea wins over visitors with the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, the highly interesting Archaeological Museum of Nemea, and the stadium which survives in very good condition. Since 573 BC, the ancient Nemean Games were held here. These were Panhellenic athletic competitions held every two years (rotating with the games at Olympia, Delphi, and Isthmia). Since 1996, the Modern Nemean Games have been held every four years, attracting the interest of athletes and spectators alike.
Spreading around Nemea and its 17 surrounding villages is the largest continuous vineyard in Greece, producing wines known throughout the world. The most famous variety is Agiorgitiko, which has been cultivated here since antiquity. Dozens of wineries open to the public offer guided tours, tastings, and seminars on the wine production cycle, while every September the area comes alive during the harvest.
During the annual ‘Great Days of Nemea’ event, the wineries open their doors and invite visitors to discover the region’s viticultural wealth through an "intoxicating" journey in a land blessed by both nature and man.
