The city with the most famous carnival in Greece

Built at the crossroads of the Peloponnese and the Ionian Sea, Patras is the third largest city in Greece and one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean. It spreads amphitheatrically between the mountain and the sea, facing the Rio–Antirrio bridge that connects Roumeli with Morias.
Patras has a history lost in the depths of time. Since antiquity, the sea has granted it wealth, commercial power, and an open spirit. It was conquered by the Romans, Latins, Venetians, Franks, Byzantines, and Ottomans, and acquired particular prestige during the Roman era.
Today, the city has an impeccable urban plan and fine pedestrian streets, while part of it is built on a hill with a castle, forming the Upper Town. Neoclassical buildings, large squares, and grand staircases connecting the Upper and Lower Town bear witness to a former glory, which blends with the bustling city of today.
It is also home to one of the country’s largest universities, while boasting a dynamic theatrical scene and a rich musical tradition. The cafés and bars at the harbour and in the Upper Town, the wide pedestrian streets, and the squares compose a setting teeming with vitality.
Of course, Patras is famous for hosting the largest carnival in Greece. Every year, its streets fill with music, colours, and energy. Floats, costumes, and endless dancing sweep locals and visitors alike into an exciting festive atmosphere.
