Municipal Museum of the Kalavryta Holocaust

Memories of a dark chapter in history

The Municipal Museum of the Kalavryta Holocaust is a place of remembrance and documentation, recording and presenting the history of the Kalavryta Holocaust of 13 December 1943. It was one of the most tragic moments in modern Greek history, when the town’s male population was executed en masse by German occupation forces and much of the town was set ablaze.
The museum operates with the aim of preserving memory, providing educational insight, and raising visitor awareness regarding the issues of war, human dignity, and peace.
You will encounter a comprehensive collection of photographic material, documents, personal belongings, written testimonies, and audiovisual content that capture the dramatic events and their aftermath.
In the first four rooms, exhibits successively showcase pre-war Kalavryta, the residents' resistance activity during the Occupation, the destruction in the wider region, and the events of 13 December 1943. The fifth room is designated as "The Pantheon of Kalavrytan Heroes – The Dismantling of Nazism," while the courtyard features the prominent composition "No More Wars," a work by the sculptor Nikos Dimopoulos.
Experience first-hand a place of remembrance that recounts the history of Kalavryta and conveys a timeless message of peace.
