A journey of hundreds of millions of years through Earth’s history
Located just minutes from the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, in the town of Lygourio, the Museum Kotsiomitis of Natural History invites you to discover the story of our planet through an impressive world of geology and palaeontology.
The museum displays approximately 6,000 exhibits from a vast collection totalling 22,000 minerals and fossils from Greece and around the world. Wander through a timeline covering hundreds of millions of years of natural evolution and encounter fossilised organisms up to 530 million years old. You will see fossilised tree trunks, corals, trilobites, fish, and sea urchins, as well as stunning mineral crystals such as azurite, malachite, and quartz.
A central highlight of the museum is the world’s most complete collection of ammonites from Epidaurus, sourced from an area internationally recognised as a unique palaeontological monument for its ammonite fauna. Maps, reconstructions, and educational materials help visitors understand the creation of the Earth and the evolution of life in a simple and vivid manner.
Combine your visit with a stroll through Lygourio or the experience of a performance at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus to discover a lesser-known but fascinating side of the region.
