An island full of light, serenity and primordial beauty

Anafi is a small paradise with untouched natural charms and heavenly beaches boasting crystal-clear waters. According to mythology, the island arose (“anefani”) from the depths of the Aegean Sea by order of the god Apollo to offer refuge to the Argonauts. Today, Anafi continues to offer sanctuary to those lucky enough to visit, allowing them to live for a while far from the crowds and the intense pace of the cities.
Arriving at the port of Agios Nikolaos, you will see the magnificent Chora in the distance, which is the island's only hamlet and spreads amphitheatrically over the hill. It was built on the ruins of a Venetian castle and possesses a unique, austere Cycladic architecture. Indeed, the craftsmen from Anafi who migrated to Athens in the 1860s built the picturesque hamlet of Anafiotika at the foot of the rock of the Acropolis, which strongly resembles the island's Chora.
In Anafi, whitewashed houses with domes, narrow cobbled streets and small squares compose a magical, picturesque setting. As for beaches, they are numerous and dreamlike, scattered across the arid Cycladic landscape. On Anafi, time goes by slowly and languidly. Sea, sand, light and sky. The scene is completed by a few tavernas serving fresh fish and excellent home-cooked dishes made with ingredients from the locals' gardens.
Hiking is the best way to discover the island through a network of trails with a total length of 18 kilometres that traverse most of Anafi. Stand-outs in the landscape of Anafi are the “fournospita”, old farmhouses with a dormitory-storehouse and a particularly large oven, and the “mnimoria”, small ossuaries situated in prominent positions.
The island's trademark is the imposing Kalamos, which rises at its eastern end. Standing 480 metres tall, it is the second largest monolith in Europe after Gibraltar. The wonderful sandy beaches and deep blue waters often have a view towards Kalamos, where the energy of the earth and the primeval beauty of the landscape emerge.
