The exotic paradise of the Small Cyclades

Koufonisia are situated between Naxos and Amorgos and are part of the Small Cyclades. They consist of two small islands, Pano (Upper) and Kato (Lower) Koufonisi, separated by a narrow strip of sea that is just 200m wide. They may be small, but they are immensely beautiful, combining the simplicity of the Cycladic landscape with a distinct, carefree aura.
Upon arriving at Pano Koufonisi, a white windmill welcomes you at the harbour entrance. Just above lies Hora, an authentic Cycladic hamlet with freshly whitewashed houses and picturesque alleys. At its centre stands the church of Agios Georgios, the island's patron saint and protector, and a point of reference for islanders and visitors alike.
The trademark of Koufonisia are their exotic, pristine beaches with fine white sand and emerald waters. This unique landscape made them famous in the late 1990s. Today, you will find sophisticated gourmet restaurants and boutique hotels along their shores. Despite this, Koufonisia still maintain their authenticity and enchanting nature.
Thanks to their small size, Koufonisia are ideal for walking and cycling. Caves and impressive geological formations create wonderful bays to explore. They are also a favourite destination for those seeking quiet holidays, fresh seafood, and authentic island revelry.
The locals are famous for their kefi (high spirits) and hospitality. Local panigyria (traditional festivals), such as those of Agios Georgios (St George), the Fisherman's Festival, and the Virgin Mary, keep tradition alive and offer unique moments.
