An aristocratic city with authentic Macedonian charm

Kastoria, one of northern Greece’s most beautiful cities, is reflected in the tranquil waters of the lake that shares its name, also known as Lake Orestiada. 
The city is built amphitheatrically on a narrow peninsula, framed by two imposing mountains, Grammos and Vitsi. Renowned in the past for its furriers, today the city will enchant you with its inexhaustible beauty, air of nobility, and serene aura.
A stroll by the lake offers relaxation and peace. Walking around it, a magnificent natural landscape unfolds before you: beech and plane trees rise along the perantzada (promenade), creating an idyllic setting full of the colours and the scents of nature. 
Dense riverside forests shelter a significant variety of bird fauna, with more than 200 species, many of which are rare and endangered. 
The old Doltso quarter, one of Kastoria’s most picturesque neighbourhoods, will enchant you with its grand mansions that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, bearing witness to an economy that flourished thanks to the processing and trading of fur. 
On the other side of the hill lies proud Apozari, with its aristocratic atmosphere, ornate Byzantine churches, and distinctive examples of Macedonian architecture.
Kastoria ideally combines nature with culture and history, offering relaxation, hiking, gastronomy, and cultural discovery.

Kastoria is served by Kastoria National Airport “Aristotelis”, located about 3 km from the city center (roughly 10 minutes by car). For international travelers, the nearest major airports are Thessaloniki International Airport “Makedonia” (about 330 km away, ~1 hour flight to Athens if connecting) and Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (about 650 km away, ~1 hour flight to Thessaloniki if connecting). From either major airport, onward travel to Kastoria requires 4–8 hours by road.
