A place of pristine forests and idyllic trails

Grevena is located in Western Macedonia, in one of the most authentic regions of mainland Greece. In recent years, it has become known as the city of mushrooms, due to its long tradition in identifying, foraging, and utilising the wild mushrooms generously offered by nature. There are approximately 2,500 species of mushrooms, and they are an integral part of the region's culture, accompanied by myths and legends.
Surrounding the city, the towering mountains and the impressive Aliakmonas river – with its countless tributaries – create a natural environment with such rapidly interchanging scenery that you feel as though you’re inside a gigantic kaleidoscope. With the forest of Valia Calda, which in the Vlach dialect means "warm valley," as an undeniable focal point, the area is an ecological paradise.
There, in the neighbourhoods of the Pindos mountains, nature seems all-powerful, with the villages, monuments, and arched bridges, all creations of exceptional self-taught craftsmen, seemingly embroidered upon it. Only the seasons that cyclically follow each one transform the landscape, marking the passage of time, which, however, leaves the landscape essentially unchanged.
