The grandeur of mountainous Greece

Kozani, nestled in the heart of Western Macedonia, was once a pivotal hub along the land routes that connected the East with Central and Western Europe, fostering significant economic and cultural prosperity in the region. Kozani is renowned for its Macedonian-style mansions, primarily constructed in the 18th and 19th centuries, adorned with exquisite murals, wood carvings, and ornate ceilings.
Alpine valleys, steep slopes and ravines, tall mountains with lush vegetation, rivers, waterfalls and lakes combine to create the impressive landscapes of the surrounding area. One of the largest networks of marked trails in Greece can be found here, with 185 km of routes connecting villages, crossing bridges and leading to mountain peaks and valleys ideal for hiking and adventure.
Kozani embraces its traditions, with ancient customs passed down through generations, imbuing the lives of its inhabitants with rhythm and meaning. During Carnival, the custom of the Bonfires takes place, with fires lit in the city's neighbourhoods, while on Lazarus Saturday, the "Lazarines", young local girls, roam the villages, visiting homes and offering "Lazaropita" cake. The "Tranos Choros" dance, held in Vlasti, Kozani, has been inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Kozani is a region where elegance meets nature, history and tradition, creating a destination for every season.
