The city of plains and bicycles

Situated near a tributary of the Pinios river, Karditsa is built in a key location for communication between the plain and the mountainous region of Thessaly. From its early days, the city was an important agricultural hub, associated with the collection and distribution of produce from the fertile Thessalian plain that surrounds it, such as cotton, wheat and various livestock products.
The present-day city stands out for its expansive squares, the sprawling Pasfilipo park and the elegant pedestrian streets. A notable feature is its vibrant cycling culture, as Karditsa boasts one of the best organised cycling networks in Greece and has rightly earned the title of “city of cycling”.
The Thessalian plain unfolds around the city, framed by majestic mountains often capped with snow, such as Pindus and Agrafa. Picturesque, traditional villages nestled at the foothill of Agrafa or in the plain complete the region's idyllic setting. Nearby lies the renowned Lake Plastiras, a haven of tranquillity dotted with villages and monasteries that bear witness to the region's rich history.
