Rhodian wines

A Tradition of Centuries in Your Glass

The delicious dishes of the Rhodian cuisine find the ideal companion in the equally delicious wines of the local wineries. Rhodes boasts a winemaking tradition that is lost in the depths of antiquity, when Rhodian wines travelled throughout the Mediterranean in amphorae bearing the symbol of the rose. Today, the island's modern wineries, combining this heritage with the most advanced production methods, create excellent labels that consistently earn awards at major international competitions.
The Unique Terroir
The Rhodian vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate. The prolonged sunshine -the island is dedicated to Helios (the Sun God)- combined with the beneficial rainfall of winter, creates ideal conditions for the ripening of  grapes. From May to Septembre, the cool sea breezes and the Aegean meltemi winds "cool" the vines, giving the wines vitality, acidity and wonderful aromas.
Fine Varieties
Today, the old local varieties have been significantly renewed and improved, offering wines with a strong personality. The island cultivates these PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) varieties worth looking for:

  • Athiri: The flagship of the island's white wines, which gives wines with delicate aromas of citrus and fruit.

  • Mandilaria (or Amorgiano): The red variety of Rhodes that produces wines with deep colour and robust tannins.

  • White Muscat and Trani Muscat: Famous for producing excellent sweet wines rich in aroma.

  • Assyrtiko: A variety that has been perfectly adapted to the soil of the island, offering minerality and dynamism.

Whether you choose a classic white Athiri to accompany your seafood, or an aged Amorgian for your meats, Rhodes wines promise to elevate your culinary experience. Do not forget to visit the wineries of the island for an authentic tasting under the Rhodian sun.
