Maria Callas Museum

An Immersive Journey into the Life of ‘La Divina’.

The world’s first museum dedicated to the legendary Greek soprano Maria Callas opened its doors to the public in October 2023. Its opening coincided with the centenary of her birth, a globally significant event included in the UNESCO official list of anniversaries.
The Building and the Museum's Purpose
The Museum is housed in an exquisite landmark building from the interwar period on Mitropoleos Street, in the heart of Athens. The space is designed to offer a comprehensive view of Callas’s career and personality, beyond the well-known myths that surround her. The aim is to showcase her unique technique and vocal colour, which allowed her to change the world of opera forever.
An Immersive Experience
Visitors are invited to take a journey through rare audio recordings, videos, and texts. The exhibition unveils her life in Greece, her international career, the people who influenced her, and the iconic roles that made her a legend. Her stage presence and dedication to art come to live in every room.
The Collection of 1,000 Exhibits
The collection began to be assembled in Paris in 2000 and now comprises approximately 1,000 exhibits. It includes personal items, particularly cherished heirlooms, and donations from organisations and individuals. These distinctive items unveil the multifaceted nature of the artist and the significant legacy she left for future generations.
