A Panorama of 2,500 years of Greek History
The Vorres Museum in Paiania represents the life's work of Ian Vorres, who, upon returning from Canada after a long absence, sought to preserve the authentic Greek aesthetic that he saw disappearing. The complex extends over a verdant area of 1.4 hectares, which includes historical buildings, courtyards, and Mediterranean gardens, creating a unique bridge between the past and present of the country.
The ‘Pyrgi’ Folklore Department
The tour begins at ‘Pyrgi’ (tower), the founder’s former residence which was created starting with three dilapidated rural dwellings dating back to the early 19th century. Exhibits include rare items of furniture, woven carpets, ceramics, and objects of traditional life, such as millstones, jars, and village troughs. The collection also includes historical prints depicting moments from modern Greece, as well as significant archaeological finds. The gardens surrounding the building are rich in trees and ornamental plants of the Mediterranean flora, enhancing the sense of harmony and the timelessness of the Greek spirit.

In the early 1970s, Ion Vorres expanded his activities into contemporary creation, believing in the power of Greek art to regenerate after the war. A building designed by architect Michalis Fotiadis houses one of the most important collections of paintings and sculptures in Greece. These works represent the most representative examples of Greek creators working during the second half of the 20th century, unveiling new ideas and artistic starting points.
