A mountain range full of natural beauty and activities
The Geraneia Mountains are a fascinating massif with a rare geographical advantage: they stretch between the Saronic, the Corinthian, and the Alkyonides Gulfs, offering constant changes of scenery and panoramic views of both sea and mountain. Their landscape, featuring pine forests, firs, glades, and natural springs, makes them an ideal destination for nature activities all year round.
The trail network includes routes of varying difficulty, suitable for both gentle walks and more demanding excursions, which pass through or lead to landmarks such as Cape Melagavi (Heraion Lighthouse) and the Sanctuary of Hera. If you love mountain biking, challenging trails await you, while the extensive network of forest roads is perfect for off-road driving with 4x4 or enduro vehicles.
As a Natura 2000 protected area, Geraneia hosts an exceptionally rich flora and fauna: hundreds of plant species and significant wildlife have been recorded here. Their peaks are situated on a major migratory path, making them an ideal spot for birdwatching, especially during spring and autumn. Scattered throughout the landscape, you will encounter monasteries and churches that add a quiet, almost contemplative dimension to the mountain experience.
Combine a hike in Geraneia with a visit to the Heraion of Perachora or a stop at the Melagavi Lighthouse at sunset. For a more complete experience, the descent towards Loutraki or Perachora perfectly connects the mountain with the sea.
